Come mostrato dal trailer, le cose non stanno andando troppo bene al nostro eroe Gnarl e ai suoi minion. Il precedente Overlord è sparito da un pezzo, presumibilmente annientato, le forze del bene hanno conquistato il mondo e il male è ormai sull’orlo dell’estinzione. Per riottenere una posizione di forza, i minion eseguono un rituale trovato nel Grande Libro del Male (chiaramente nel capitolo dedicato agli Atti Nefasti) e provano a far risorgere quattro malvagi morti di recente. Finiscono così per creare i Netherghūls, non morti servitori delle arti oscure e dediti al male.
“Di recente le forze del male hanno incontrato qualche problema,” ha dichiarato Gnarl, capo dei minion malvagi. “La bontà sta conquistando sempre più terreno, spargendo dolcezza e abbracci nelle nostre lande un tempo corrotte e sgradevoli. Per questo abbiamo chiamato i rinforzi. Essi sanno che il male non è solo ciò che fai, è ciò che sei.”
Vestendo i panni di Cryos, Inferna, Hakon e Malady, i giocatori possono utilizzare le loro abilità uniche per spargere il caos lungo tutto il pianeta, grazie alle truppe di minion sotto il loro controllo. Questa banda di antieroi, svogliati e messi assieme alla rinfusa, va a comporre la Compagnia del Male e deve provare a collaborare per sconfiggere le forze disgustosamente buone della Giustizia Luccicante, una banda di paladini guidati da un misterioso unicorno noto solo come Sparkle.
“Questi eroi oscuri dovranno lavorare assieme, o da soli, per sconfiggere le forze della luccicanza,” ha aggiunto Gnarl. “Ma nessuno è qui per farsi degli amici… certo non amici per la vita. Affilate le vostre armi, spolverate i vostri minion e scatenate la carneficina!”
