    Devolver Digital Films Releases
‘Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie’ on Steam Store
    Worldwide, April 28, 2015

    – Sci-fi adventure comedy feature is second movie title released on Steam Store by Austin-based indie game publisher/film distributor –

Devolver Digital Films announces the release of Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie on the Steam Store, on Tuesday, April 28th
The comic sci-fi/adventure film features the popular ‘Angry Video Game Nerd’ character from the eponymous comic web series created by and starring James Rolfe; the feature-length film follows The Nerd on an adventure through the urban legend surrounding the mass burial of millions copies of the Atari 2600 video game E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, proclaimed as the “worst video game of all time.”
The film will launch for a sale price of 4,79 € (40% off the title’s regular Steam Store price of 7,99 €), worldwide and DRM-free. The title is the second feature film Devolver Digital has released on the Steam Store platform, which is known primarily for its dominance as the world’s most widely-used computer game destination.

Sean Keegan, producer of AVGN: The Movie, says, “Steam is obviously the perfect platform for a film about the worst video game of all time, and we’re honored to be one of the first narrative features released there.” Keegan, along with Rolfe and co-writer/director Kevin Finn, entirely crowd-funded the film through the AVGN web series’ large international fan-base in 2012, raising what was at the time the second-largest fundraise ever for a film campaign online.

Andie Grace, Devolver Digital Films’ Vice President of Acquisitions, agrees. “The Steam Store gets everything right about distributing games, both for fans and for publishers and creators. We’re so pleased for this opportunity to put that to work for an independent film like AVGN: The Movie and to help it reach its widest global audience, instantly and easily — and without having to wait for months to learn how the movie is doing with fans.”

2015 marks the 13th anniversary of Valve’s first public announcement of Steam, which has since become the leading platform for PC, Mac, and Linux games and software. In the last year, Steam realized the addition of many new services and features – including In-Home Streaming, Broadcasting, Music, and user-created stores – as it grew to over 125 million active accounts worldwide.

Based in Austin, Texas, Devolver Digital distributes independent video games and films from creators around the world. Devolver Digital’s outspoken passion for indie games, developers, and fans has earned the company no minor measure of game industry notoriety; with its expansion into film distribution, announced at South by Southwest 2013, the company has brought its fiercely creative devotion and digital content expertise to support and celebrate indie filmmakers and projects.
