The announcement was made during the fully packed Sonic Mania: Behind the Scenes panel at San Diego Comic-Con which featured new insight from Takashi Iizuka (head of Sonic Team), Christian Whitehead (developer for Sonic Mania), Simon Thomley (programmer for Sonic Mania), Tom Fry (artist for Sonic Mania), and Tee Lopes (composer for Sonic Mania). Moderated by Aaron Webber (social media manager for Sonic), the panelists discussed the road to development behind Sonic Mania, all building up to the release date of August 15.
